It’s can be a scary thing to try to address conflict, but the support of a mediator and a clear process can take a lot of the anxiety and fear out of the equation. With support and informed options creative solutions are possible.

Mediate

Mediation can help identify the specific issues that need to be worked out and creates a context for creative problem solving. Having a neutral third party and a clear process can open up creative and workable solutions that, in the space of conflict,  have been hard to identify. During the process of mediation each party addresses their interests and priorities and then works (either in the same room or separately) with the help of the mediator to reach mutually satisfactory solutions that are agreed upon for moving forward.

When preparing for mediation it's helpful to think in advance of what exactly you are hoping to address, what outcomes you’d like to see and what proposals you’d like to make. Participating in mediation, even if you ‘ve agreed to attend, is voluntary so at any moment if the process is not working for you you are under no obligation to stay or agree to anything.

Mediation provides a clear process for moving through a tricky situation, strengthening communication and creating a healthier path forward.
